Selection from the 20th Youth Salon
A selection of young Egyptian artists chosen by Wael Shawky

October – December 2009

The Youth Salon’ is a yearly open-call exhibition based in Cairo that presents works by young Arab artists, and is considered among emerging talents as a stepping stone for an artistic career. In its 20th edition this year, the stakes were clearly high as members of the jury committee narrowed the choice of around 100 artists from a pool of over 1100, a first time occurrence in the history of the Salon. Wael Shawky, Hassan Khan and Bassam el Baroni were among the members of the committee that were in charge of the selection. An exhibition at the Blue House at Darat al Funun features 8 artists chosen from the 20th Youth Salon curated by Wael Shawky. The works include video pieces, paintings and installation and will run in parallel to Shawky’s exhibition at Darat al Funun.

Participating artists: Ahmed Badry, Ahmed Kamel, Amr Kafrawy, Enas Sakr, Eslam Zeen El Abdeen & Mohamed Hossam, Mahmoud Hallwy & Ahmed Nagy, Marwa Shazly, and Mo Nabil
