Across cities and markets, museums and digital platforms, there are attempts to pre-format reality into forms that can be managed and reproduced. Histories are repackaged into familiar, sanctioned narratives. What circulates is what can be predicted and repeated. The result is a sanitised version of reality, processed for consumption.
Despite the irreducible complexity and deep instability that mark our world, the drive to standardise it does not relent. This drive no longer follows the world; it looks to precede it. It has become embedded in the very tools through which we see, think, and imagine; narrowing the future before it can even be conceived.
Darat al Funun Summer Academy 2026 invites participants to situate their research and artistic practices within, and against, this logic of pervasive standardisation. Throughout the program, the prescribed form, and the tools and systems that produce it, serve as the primary site of investigation. In a world where artistic work is pressured to adhere to these forces, the Summer Academy proposes the Artist's Proof; interpreted as a site of alternative production. This is an invitation to experiment with how meaningful work can emerge from, and ultimately resist, the limits of a pre-formatted frame.
Technical Origin: In the tradition of printmaking, the Artist's Proof is a print, held by the artist outside the numbered editions and the commercial sequence.
Interpretation: In this context, the Artist's Proof is understood as a work that has not yet been absorbed — held in the interval before it is settled by reproduction. It is reclaimed here as a space that belongs to the artist.
Protocol: By the end of The Summer Academy, participants are invited to produce a Proof within a 21 × 29.7 cm frame, rooted in their own research and artistic inquiries. Within this common limit, the question becomes: how can a work maintain its faithfulness when confronted with a pre-formatted frame?

Upon entry, each participant is given a workbook as the primary site of engagement. Function: A consistent frame for the assembly of fragments, sketches, and annotations. It acts as a daily ledger for the labor of inquiry. Operation: Throughout the program, participants respond to specific exercises and templates designed to test the limits of the format through their own research interests. Role: The workbook acts as the essential site of testing required for the Proof to emerge. |

The Summer Academy will unfold from 21 June to 31 July 2026. Across four weeks, participants will move through the mentor-led modules, with the remaining time dedicated to the development and production of their final work.
Alongside these shared days, the Summer Academy will also include studio days, during which participants are encouraged to remain present, continue developing their work, and make use of the space, though attendance on those days is not compulsory.
The Summer Academy is open to emerging artists based in Jordan and Palestine whose practices are engaging prolonged research questions and inquiries.
Accommodation is provided for participants traveling from outside Amman. Travel expenses are the responsibility of participants.
The Summer Academy will be in both Arabic and English.
في المدن والأسواق والمتاحف والمنصات الرقمية، ثمة محاولات مستمرة لإعادة صياغة الواقع في قوالب قابلة للإدارة وإعادة الإنتاج. تُعاد تعبئة الحقب التاريخية في روايات مألوفة ومصنَّفة. ما يتداول هو ما يمكن التنبؤ به وتكراره. والنتيجة نسخة معقَّمة من الواقع، معالَجة للاستهلاك.
على الرغم من التعقيد الذي لا يُختزَل والاضطراب العميق اللذين يسمان عالمنا، فإن الدافع نحو توحيد المعايير لا يهدأ. لم يعد هذا الدافع يتبع العالم؛ بل بات يسعى إلى سبقه. لقد تغلغل في الأدوات ذاتها التي نرى بها ونفكر ونتخيّل؛ مضيّقًا المستقبل قبل أن يُتصوَّر.
تدعو أكاديمية درة الفنون الصيفية 2026 المشاركين إلى تأطير ممارساتهم البحثية والفنية داخل منطق التوحيد القياسي السائد ومواجهته. على امتداد البرنامج، تشكّل الاستمارة المحددة مسبقًا، والأدوات والأنظمة التي تُنتجها، الموقعَ الأساسي للتحقيق. في عالم تُضغط فيه الممارسة الفنية نحو الامتثال لهذه القوى، تقترح الأكاديمية الصيفية مفهوم «برهان الفنان»، بوصفه موقعًا للإنتاج البديل. هذه دعوة للتجريب في كيفية خروج عمل ذي معنى من حدود إطار مُصاغ مسبقًا، ومقاومة تلك الحدود في نهاية المطاف.
الأصل التقني: في تقاليد الطباعة على المطبعة، برهان الفنان هو نسخة يحتفظ بها الفنان خارج الطبعات المرقّمة والتسلسل التجاري.
التأويل: في هذا السياق، يُفهم برهان الفنان بوصفه عملًا لم يُمتصَّ بعد — محتجَزًا في الفاصل الزمني قبل أن تستقر عليه إعادة الإنتاج. يُستعاد هنا بوصفه فضاءً ينتمي إلى الفنان.
البروتوكول: في نهاية الأكاديمية الصيفية، يُدعى المشاركون إلى إنتاج برهان ضمن إطار مقاسه 21 × 29.7 سم، متجذّر في مسائلهم البحثية والفنية الخاصة. ضمن هذا الحدّ المشترك، يغدو السؤال: كيف يحافظ العمل على وفائه حين يواجه إطارًا مُصاغًا مسبقًا؟

عند الانضمام، يُسلَّم لكلّ مشارك كتاب عمل بوصفه الموقع الأساسي للانخراط. الوظيفة: إطار ثابت لتجميع الشذرات والرسوم التخطيطية والملاحظات. يعمل سجلًا يوميًا لجهد التحقيق. الآلية: على مدار البرنامج، يستجيب المشاركون لتمارين وقوالب بعينها مصمَّمة لاختبار حدود الشكل عبر اهتماماتهم البحثية الخاصة. الدور: يشكّل كتاب العمل الموقع الجوهري للاختبار الضروري لإنضاج البرهان. |

ستمتد الأكاديمية الصيفية من 21 يونيو إلى 31 يوليو 2026. على مدى أربعة أسابيع، سيمرّ المشاركون عبر الوحدات التي يقودها الموجّهون، فيما يُخصَّص الوقت المتبقي لتطوير أعمالهم النهائية وإنتاجها.
إلى جانب هذه الأيام المشتركة، ستتضمن الأكاديمية الصيفية أيامًا استوديوية، يُشجَّع فيها المشاركون على البقاء ومواصلة تطوير أعمالهم والاستفادة من الفضاء، وإن لم يكن الحضور إلزاميًا في تلك الأيام.
الأكاديمية الصيفية مفتوحة للفنانين الناشئين المقيمين في الأردن وفلسطين الذين تنخرط ممارساتهم في تساؤلات بحثية متواصلة.
يُوفَّر السكن للمشاركين القادمين من خارج عمان. نفقات السفر على عاتق المشاركين.
