Saleem Al-Bahloly completed his Ph.D. at the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. He is working on a book manuscript based on his dissertation entitled, The Freedom of Despair: Art and Politics in Baghdad, 1963-1979. He wrote the essay 'Art History outside the History of Art' for Arab Art Histories: The Khalid Shoman Collection (2013).
