Wesam Al Asali (IWLab)

Syria, 1984, lives between Segovia and Damascus

Wesam Al Asali is an architect and researcher specializing in heritage knowledge, environmental design, and local construction technologies. He is an Assistant Professor and Director of Materials and Methods at IE School of Architecture and Design in Spain. Wesam holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and was the 2021–2022 Global Fung Fellow at Princeton. His work has been published and exhibited internationally, including at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale. He is co-editor of Arab Modern: Architecture and the Project of Independence (gta Verlag, 2025) and co-founder of IWLab, which received UNESCO’s 2024 Global Award for Sustainable Architecture.
