In 1987, Fouad Elkhoury was commissioned by the Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris, to portray Amman. During the fall of that year, Elkhoury documented its different areas including, Jabel Amman, Jabel Weibdeh, Shmeissani, Jabel el Jauffeh, the railway station and the Hijaz railway. The work was conducted with the aim of enhancing the special topography of Amman while concentrating on scenic views, buildings and the urban grid of the city. These pictures, shot in black and white, highlight the dramatic changes that the city has undergone in the lapse of two decades.
