Join in, take part, and collaborate as individuals, families, friends – at the opening of "do it بالعربي" on Saturday 24 September 2016. For this project, more than 70 artists from across the region have written instructions that anyone can use to make a new work of art.

Program:

2:00pm - Open Day Activities. Visitors are invited to join in workshops and drop-in activities all across Darat al Funun for a chance to enjoy activating the artists’ instructions from 2:00pm throughout the afternoon. All ages welcome.

5:30pm - Exhibition Opens. On view are the selection of artists’ instructions realized by visitors, as well as through collaborations with artists, architects, and students over the summer. Visitors are invited to enjoy the exhibition as well as join in by activating the artists’ instructions.

7:00pm - Performance. Actress Hala Bdeir will perform the instructions by Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme on the terrace of the Headquarters.

7:30pm - Book Launch and Live Music. The "do it بالعربي" book published by the Sharjah Art Foundation will be made available for the first time at the Headquarters terrace. Jordanian band Watar Sol will stage a live performance.

The "do it بالعربي" bilingual publication will include over 70 newly commissioned artist instructions, a selection of previously published instructions, as well as essays that contextualise the project.

Co-curated by Sharjah Art Foundation Director Hoor Al Qasimi and Serpentine Gallery co-Director Hans Ulrich Obrist, "do it بالعربي" is a new iteration of the ongoing "do it" publication and exhibition project originally founded and curated by Obrist in 1993.

Projects are also continuously launched on social media for everyone to participate in.
