Set at the outbreak of the Great Palestinian Revolt, Palestine 36 returns to a decisive moment in the history of Palestine, when resistance to British colonial rule was unfolding alongside accelerating Zionist settlement and profound changes to Palestinian life.

Moving between villages and cities, and through the lives of Palestinians occupying different positions within a society in flux, the film brings the political into the scale of the everyday, offering an epic account of a defining chapter in Palestinian resistance.

Annemarie Jacir is a Palestinian director, screenwriter, and producer. Her Like Twenty Impossibles was the first Arab short film to be selected for the Festival de Cannes. Her first feature-length film, Salt of the Sea, was selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes and won 14 international awards, including a FIPRESCI Prize. It was the first feature directed by a Palestinian woman, and was Palestine's submission to the Academy Awards. It was followed by When I Saw You, which was named Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, and Wajib. Jacir co-founded Philistine Films, an independent production company that focuses on productions related to the Arab world. Palestine 36, her most recent feature, which she wrote and directed, had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and represents Palestine at the Academy Awards.
