Re-rooting: Self Determination and Autonomous Practices

Book launch and talk by Rana Beiruti, Lama Khateib (Zikra for Popular Learning), Mariam Al Jaajaa (The Arab Group for the Protection of Nature), Nadia Bseiso, and Khaled Al-Bashir

Tuesday 24 September 2024 | 6:30 PM | Beit al Beiruti

Two years after the Re-rooting exhibition, Darat al Funun is launching a book that continues the conversation around its enduring themes. The publication brings together contributions, testimonies, artworks, local interventions, and dialogues that explore how self-determination and autonomous practices can free us from industrialized systems and challenge preconceptions about water politics, agroecology, and extractive building practices.

The book launch will feature presentations by artists, exhibitors, and contributors, discussing how their work has evolved since the exhibition. These presentations will cover topics such as wheat cultivation in Jordan, agricultural realities in Jordan and Palestine, the politics of building and architecture, and the challenges of visually documenting our contested landscape and water ecologies.

The talk will be in Arabic. To register, please fill in the form here.
