Darat al Funun presents “Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait” (2014). Shot by “1,001 Syrians” according to the caption, this documentary is a relentless chronicle of the horrors of the war in Syria told through pixelated eye-witness accounts shot on cell phones. The film also tells the story of a teacher, Wiam, who witnesses the occupation of Homs and who shares her filmed documentation with Usama Muhammad who is living in exile in Paris. The documentary has been shown in many film festivals around the globe, including in Cannes, Toronto, and London, where it received the Grierson prize.
