Join us for the opening of “The Hejaz Railway Station”, under the patronage of the Turkish Ambassador Murad Karagoz and in collaboration with Yunus Emre Institute and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). The exhibition includes documents and photographs from Ottoman archives, showing the importance of the line about which Sultan Abdul Hamid Khan II said: “It is my old dream”. Following the opening there will be a lecture titled “The Importance of the Hejaz Railway Station” by Prof. Dr. Azmi Özcan from Turkey.
The Hejaz railway project was constructed from 1900 to 1908 between Damascus and Medina and is considered one of the greatest projects in the world during that period. The line reached Amman in 1903, Ma'an in 1904, Medain Saleh in 1906 and Medina in 1908, symbolizing a unity between muslims, linking the Istanbul line to Medinah.
The exhibition runs until 1 July 2019.
