Egyptian artist Mohamed Abouelnaga’s exhibition “The Warrior” shows his new work, in which he reflects on the issue of being a warrior in contemporary times. Inspired by a 19th century archive of glass negatives with portraits of British soldiers and their families at the time of British colonization of Egypt, Abouelnaga transforms the prints through scratches and other interventions, producing a critical view of a colonial time in the context of today.

Born in Egypt in 1960, Mohamed Abouelnaga works in papermaking, mixed-media painting, video-installation, and printmaking. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria and studied papermaking in Egypt and in Japan.
