Darat al Funun presents a four hands piano concert by Jordanian pianist Zina Asfour and French pianist Pierre Morabia. In addition to pieces by French composers Debussy, Chabrier, and Ravel, Zina Asfour will also perform a piece by Jordanian composer Tarek Younis in dedication to Palestine.

Accompanied by visuals, this concert is part of Darat al Funun’s 2017 program “Falastin al Hadara” and brings together international and local classical music, while the upcoming concert by the NAWA band will focus on early Palestinian music. The program also includes “Desert Soundscapes”, an exhibition by Ammar Khammash exploring our history through an undiscovered musical scale hidden in the millions of flints in the desert.

Pierre Morabia studied at the Conservatoire de Marseille under direction of Pierre Barbizet. He received many awards, including the Prix Albert Roussel, and first place at the international piano competition Epinal. Morabia performs with orchestras and in chamber music formations both in France and internationally. He also teaches at the Conservatoire de Marseille.

Zina Asfour studied musicology at the Sorbonne and piano at the Ecole Normale Alfred Cortot in Paris, and Trinity College of Music in London. Throughout her musical career, Zina worked with several renowned musicians. She founded the ensemble Ateek, which aims to encourage new contemporary Arab composers and musicians. Zina currently teaches and performs in Europe and the Middle East and is working on several projects with Ateek.
