Khazaaen: Community Archive and the Palestinian Narrative
A conversation with Fady Asleh

Saturday 22 February 2025 | 6:30 PM | Beit al Beiruti

This discussion explores the journey of Khazaaen, a community archive founded in 2016 in Jerusalem, dedicated to documenting and preserving personal papers and family archives within a dynamic, multilayered research framework. Through collaborations with cultural institutions in Jerusalem and around the world, Khazaaen has made—and continues to make—its collections accessible through exhibitions, research and academic forums, and specialized discussions. Its work has also served as a reference for numerous academic studies and articles exploring Palestinian social history and family narratives across generations.

In this session, Khazaaen’s founder and executive director, Fady Asleh, will reflect on the archive’s mission, evolution, and the broader role of community-driven archiving. He will also address key questions: How do archives contribute to the construction of social and historical consciousness? Can a handful of papers change the way we understand the past? Can family and personal archives restore justice to those who have passed, challenge dominant historical accounts, or help shape collective memory?
