Adel Abidin

Iraq 1973. Lives and works between Amman and Helsinki.

Adel Abidin’s practice explores the relationship between the visual arts, politics, and identity, using a distinct visual language often laced with sarcasm and paradox. He had a solo exhibition at Darat al Funun in 2011, and participated in several other exhibitions.

"The answer, because I am an artist and not a documentarian, is that I want to create a symbolic image that bears a signifier and signified, making the viewer think about the work and in the work, to be intellectually provoked, to interact with it physically and mentally."
