After The Artefact
Online Talk with Elias Kurdy

Saturday 7 February 2026 | 6:30 PM | Zoom

This artist talk unfolds around a set of questions that guide Elias Kurdy’s practice and his work presented in the exhibition In That Same Hour:

How is historical knowledge produced and made authoritative? What roles do archaeological artefacts and museums play in fixing certain narratives while rendering others fragile or invisible? And how might sculptural practice intervene in these processes?

Through a discussion of selected works, Kurdy examines archaeology and the museum as mechanisms of historicisation; sites where materials are frozen, classified, and mobilised to construct seemingly objective histories. Engaging fiction and imitation as critical tools, his practice unsettles these frameworks, exposing the forms of violence embedded in acts of preservation and display.

The talk will focus in particular on his contribution to In That Same Hour, reflecting on the processes, research, and lines of inquiry that shaped the work.

The talk will be conducted in Arabic.
