Fire at Sea (Gianfranco Rosi, 2016) is an impressionistic documentary that infers the bigger picture about the refugee crisis through its close and intimate observation of the impact it has on a doctor and a boy living on the Italian island of Lampedusa, a landing spot for many boats crossing the Mediterranean. The film won the Golden Bear for best film at the Berlin International Film Festival, and was selected as the Italian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards.
