Amal Kenawy passed away the first day of Eid el Fitr, August 19. She was a passionate artist and a very dear friend. Our loss is great, but she is not absent, her art lives.

Born in 1974 in Cairo, Amal Kenawy was a prolific artist. She worked in a wide range of media, from drawing to painting, sculpture, video art and performance. She was awarded many prestigious awards such as The Grand Prize of the 2010 Cairo Biennial, The 2007 Sharjah Biennial award, The Golden Prize for the 23 Alexandria Biennial, and the Prize for the Best Animated Film of the 12th Cairo International Film Festival.
