Visualizing Palestine: A Chronicle of Colonialism and the Struggle for Liberation is a compelling collection of over 200 full-color infographics and political art that seeks to actively document Israeli settler colonialism and the Palestinian struggle for liberation. Co-edited by Jessica Anderson, Aline Batarseh, and Yosra El-Gazzar, this large-scale book is the result of more than a decade of work with over 160 contributors, published by Haymarket Books.

The panel discussion will cover Visualizing Palestine’s 12-year journey, its upcoming projects, and future plans.

Visualizing Palestine, a non-profit established in 2012, is dedicated to using data and research to visually communicate Palestinian experiences, aiming to provoke narrative change. VP envisions a liberated future for Palestinians in a world free from oppression. With nearly 300 infographics and 11 educational platforms, VP has become a trusted and credible source of information. It provides visual resources to thousands of organizers, educators, and students worldwide. VP’s infographics have been featured in both online and offline spaces, including art exhibitions, public education, awareness campaigns, research, and academia across more than 70 countries. Additionally, VP has cultivated a strong social media presence, organically growing an audience of over 260,000 followers across various platforms.

Aline Batarseh, a Palestinian from Jerusalem now living in Virginia, has over twenty years of experience working with various Palestinian and international nonprofits. Her work has focused on advancing gender equality, reproductive justice, children’s rights, mental health, and social justice. In 2021, Aline joined the Visualizing Palestine team as executive director and co-editor of Visualizing Palestine: A Chronicle of Colonialism and the Struggle for Liberation.

Yosra El-Gazzar is a visual artist and graphic designer based in Cairo, Egypt. She joined the Visualizing Palestine team in 2016 and currently serves as the artistic director. Yosra holds a BA in applied sciences and arts from the German University in Cairo and was part of the Moutheqat/Women in Dox Documentary program in Tunisia. Since then, she has participated in various international exhibitions and art residencies. Yosra is also a co-editor of Visualizing Palestine: A Chronicle of Colonialism and the Struggle for Liberation.

Fateh Azzam is a researcher and consultant who has lived and worked in the U.S., Palestine, Nigeria, Egypt, and Lebanon. He worked professionally in theater from 1971 to 1985 and in human rights since 1987, with experience in civil society, the philanthropic sector, academia, and the United Nations. Fateh holds an LLM in international human rights law from the University of Essex and has published studies and book chapters on human rights and humanitarian law, the responsibility to protect, the right to development and the Sustainable Development Goals, the Arab human rights movement, and citizenship in Palestine and the Arab region.
