The Middle East Photograph Preservation Initiative (MEPPI)
A collaboration by the Arab Image Foundation

20-28 January 2014

The Middle East Photograph Preservation Initiative (MEPPI) is led by the Arab Image Foundation, the Art Conservation Department at the University of Delaware, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Getty Conservation Institute. It seeks to identify significant photographic collections in the broad Middle East, from North Africa and the Arab Peninsula through Western Asia, and to promote their preservation and visibility.

MEPPI will hold its third course in photograph preservation from 20-28 January 2014 at Darat al Funun. The 17 participants from Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Yemen, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon represent national archives and libraries, universities, museums, newspapers, ministries, research centers and private collections.

The workshop includes lectures, demonstrations, hands-on projects, collection visits, and case studies and is followed by a nine-month distance-mentoring phase with assignments designed for participants to apply knowledge shared during the workshop to their own institution. Participants engage through collection assessments, reports and articles, and public presentations.
