At the Lab

Shown in the month of Labour Day, Palestinian photographer Mohamad Badarne exhibits his work 'May You Come Back Safely' for the first time in Jordan. The photographs document the daily life and work circumstances of Palestinian labourers in occupied Palestine. Neglected, exploited, and denied their rights by their employers, more than 60 labourers die in construction and infrastructure development each year.

"The idea behind ‘May You Come Back Safely’ had come to me after the death of a few of my friends from my village, and some friends from Yaft al Naserah: Hamada Ala’a Eddine, who was buried under the sand, and Nidal Shaweesh, who fell from a great height.

The project expanded from being a personal project to a more general one, when I found out the number of people getting killed at work. I never knew what my friends did at work, but I was shocked when I found out they worked under the harshest circumstances."

'May You Come Back Safely' was produced with support of the Arab Funds for Arts and Culture (AFAC), and is exhibited at Darat al Funun in collaboration with Al Balad Theater.
