Nasser Soumi transforms a variety of ordinary materials into works of art. He often uses different tones of indigo, a colour that was traditionally widely used in Palestine both for textiles and house paint, and one which evokes the colours of the Mediterranean Sea. In Longing for Akka the artist reflects on the experience of Palestinians who were forced to leave Akka by boat, often taking what they could of their belongings in cloth bags.
