The Youth Salon’ is a yearly open-call exhibition based in Cairo that presents works by young Arab artists, and is considered among emerging talents as a stepping stone for an artistic career. In its 20th edition this year, the stakes were clearly high as members of the jury committee narrowed the choice of around 100 artists from a pool of over 1100, a first time occurrence in the history of the Salon. An exhibition at the Blue House at Darat al Funun features 8 artists chosen from the 20th Youth Salon curated by Wael Shawky. The works include video pieces, paintings and installation and will run in parallel to Shawky’s exhibition at Darat al Funun.
