In conjunction with the exhibition Alive in the Dead Sea (1995-2015), we present Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait (2014). Shot by “1,001 Syrians” according to the caption, the documentary is a relentless chronicle of the horrors of the war in Syria told through pixelated eye-witness accounts shot on cell phones. The film also tells the story of a teacher, Wiam, who witnesses the occupation of Homs and who shares her filmed documentation with Usama Muhammad who is living in exile in Paris. Screening for the first time in Jordan, the documentary has been shown in many film festivals around the globe, including in Cannes, Toronto, and London, where it received the Grierson prize.
