Tetrachord: Performance
Performance by Shireen Talhouni, Ahmad Barakat and Hiba Shahzada

Tuesday 31 May 2016
The Lab 6:30 pm

Join performance artist Shireen Talhouni, musician Ahmad Barakat and architect Hiba Shahzada on the very last and final evening of their residency at The Lab where they will be showcasing Tetrachord, an experimental performance piece in which the visual, auditory and kinesthetic interact in space. The work is a result of a 3-week open creative process that was inspired by the existing relationship between The Lab space, the street, and the wider community.

Following an intensive month of interactive workshops, the Lab displays the remaining installation completed in the workshop Tetracord, a collaboration by Heba Shahzadeh, Shireen Talhouni, and Ahmad Barakat
-------------

Shireen Talhouni is a performance artist based in Amman, Jordan. Her dance based work is heavily influenced by her experience as a practicing architect. In her work she places emphasis on collaboration, process and innovation. Her most recent work, Sarmad, is a short dance film that has been screened in over 15 festivals internationally. She has performed in various theatre and art venues in Jordan and the UK. In 2012 she completed a Diploma in dance studies at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.

Ahmad Barakat was born in Jordan in 1983 and began learning the oud at the age of sixteen, taking private lessons with Mohammed Alawneh at first, and later attending the Jordan Academy of Music. Ahmad has continuously developed the traditional sounds of the Oud by incorporating various musical genres into Middle Eastern music, and by exploiting the compositional and improvisational elements that are common to different genres. He participated in international festivals in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Germany and has performed with a number of ensembles in Jordan, including Zaman Al Zaatar.

Hiba Shahzada is a Jordanian architect and artist. She holds architecture degrees from the University of Jordan and the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University. She worked with Sahel Al Hiyari Architects in Jordan, and with Atelier Peter Zumthor and Partner in Switzerland. She has received several awards and nominations, among them becoming a finalist for the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative in 2014. Alongside practicing architecture, Hiba has been developing her artistic style while working on several painting, sculpture and photography projects/private commissions in Jordan, USA, Italy and Switzerland.
