Across cities and markets, museums and digital platforms, there are attempts to pre-format reality into forms that can be managed and reproduced. Histories are repackaged into familiar, sanctioned narratives. What circulates is what can be predicted and repeated. The result is a sanitised version of reality, processed for consumption.
Darat al Funun Summer Academy 2026 invites participants to situate their research and artistic practices within, and against, this logic of pervasive standardisation. Throughout the six-week programme, participants will work with mentors across modules to examine the prescribed form, and the tools and systems that produce it. In a world where artistic work is pressured to adhere to these forces, the Summer Academy proposes the Artist’s Proof as a conceptual anchor – interpreted as a site of alternative production.
