A Library as a Film Set
Exhibition with Marie Ouazzani & Nicolas Carrier and workshop participants

Opening: Saturday 10 October | At the Lab 6:00 pm
10 – 31 October 2015

Marie Ouazzani & Nicolas Carrier present a new installation with films, images and natural objects that develops links between the books of the Darat al Funun library, the gardens of the foundation and the region's history. By focusing on monuments, they explore the ruins of the Archaeological site and the indecision between disappearance and commemoration, and highlight the importance of these knowledge objects, cultural heritages, and ancient power places that remain the major political and economical issues of our time.

The exhibition will also showcase the works done by participants during the workshop "A library as a film set" that took place at the Lab and library in September. Workshop participants explored methods of re-appropriating images from library books to create their own images using photography, collage and publication.

Exhibiting Workshop Participants:
Mahmoud Hussein
Dana Kaoukji
Hanada Khataybeh

The artists duo Marie Ouazzani (b. 1991) and Nicolas Carrier (b. 1981) was formed in 2015. Through travels that bring them to monuments, historical and industrial landscapes, they re-contextualize images to highlight their memories of places. Film, photography, and publications are their means to engage with these images and investigate their spiritual and phantasmagorical potential. By handling cultural objects, their work offers a critical reflection around the representations induced by our time.
