Open Studio: 29.7 × 21 cm
The Darat al Funun Summer Academy 2026

Tuesday 28 July 2026 | 6:30 PM | The Lab

The Open Studio marks the culmination of the Darat al Funun Summer Academy 2026, held under the title 29.7 × 21 cm. It offers a glimpse into the questions, experiments, and works that have emerged throughout the program.

Taking the 29.7 × 21 cm frame as a shared constraint for their work, participants have considered the politics of standardisation and the forms, tools, and systems through which reality is reproduced and made to fit prescribed formats. At the centre of the process is the question of how artistic work can emerge from, and ultimately resist, the limits of a preformatted frame.

Throughout the program, participants have taken part in workshops, exercises, and discussions facilitated by Nour Bishouty, Lobna Al Sana and Mais Fareed, Khaled Hourani, Adel Abidin, and Sanabel Al Far.

Participants: Akka Hamdan, Duaa Abu Sada, Jad Dahshan, Marah Farhat, Mayar Kabajah, Nasser AbuDalbouh, Obayda Dahly and Waleed Mustafa.
